The person who first used a resin that would harden around snow crystals was Vincent Schaefer. He wrote all about it in his 1981 book "A Field Guide to the Atmosphere." You probably could find his book in a library or a bookstore. The resin was Formvar. It was dissolved in ethylene dichlorde to make a 1% solution. But another way to make replicas of snow crystals is to use a clear plastic spray found in most paint and hardware stores.
